Course Structure

An overview of lesson times, starting from the first day

First Day (Monday)

The first day begins with reception and registration. Be sure to bring with you:

  • Form I-20 and F-1 Visa (Only if your English Course is over 20 hours per week)
  • Form I-94 (A white or green card that will be delivered to you)
  • Notebook and Pen
  • Passport
  • Health Insurance (valid for the duration of your stay)
  • Credit card (for the deposit should you choose to stay within the school residences or apartments)

At 09.00 there will be a short language test – nothing to worry about – specifically designed to put you in a class with other students of a similar level to yours. The test will be followed by a session / welcome speech, the handing out of the teaching calendar and other activities, and possibly lessons.

At 10:15 there will be a break and you can enjoy the Welcome Breakfast where you can meet and socialise with all the new students.

Shortly after breakfast, there will be an orientation session, where you will receive information on the school, activities, accommodation, transport and the visa regulations. Depending on the course you have chosen (General, Semi-Intensive or Intensive), you may start lessons immediately afterwards or the following day. Here is a sample:

Welcome Pack 

On the first day you’ll get a nice welcome package, including a manual with information about Washington DC, the schedule of classes, some detailed information about your English course in Washington DC, suggestions for free time activities, a list of extra learning activities, the school regulations and some important contact information including the emergency telephone number of the school (which you can contact 24 hours a day during your entire stay).

From Tuesday Onwards

By the second day, you will begin to follow the regular academic calendar. During the week, two different teachers will alternate, so you will be exposed different types of pronunciation. The first Wednesday of your course you will receive the textbook, and then as time goes by, you’ll receive the other supplementary educational materials. 

The time table varies depending on your selected English Course:

  • General English: The first day will establish whether your lessons will be in the morning or the afternoon
  • Semi-Intensive: Similar to General English, but with extra lessons twice a week from 12: 30 – 14: 00.
  • Intensive or Business English: Similar to General English, but with extra lessons every day from 12: 30 – 14: 00.
